Your wireless router / access point isn’t as secure as you think it is
Everyone knows that using WEP to secure your access point is about like putting a wet paper towel on a forest fire. However it appears that WPA is just about as worthless. Toshihiro Ohigashi of Hiroshima University and Masakatu Morii of Kobe University in Japan have announced that they have found a way to break the WPA encryption (when using TKIP) on most routers in about a minute.
More information about the specifics of the technique can be found in a paper they jointly published.
If you are using WPA 2 you are still safe, for now.
Network World has a good writeup on the paper and the issue at hand.

the simplest and best way to add another level of security … it comes in 2 parts ….
RENAME the router network … can’t tell you how many within range of me are left as *linksys* or *netgear* or *router* or something similar …
also … TURN OFF ssid broadcasting … you know the name of your network … nobody else has to …
and write it down … so in case a friend comes over and wants to connect … it’s SIMPLE …
